What to Expect: Prenatal Yoga Class
If you’re expecting, you’ve likely noticed that everyone has advice on how to care for yourself and prepare for the journey ahead. Between the long to-do lists, nursery setups, and doctor appointments, finding a space that is truly just for you can feel like a challenge.
That’s where Prenatal Yoga comes in. Designed specifically for birthing parents at any stage of pregnancy, our classes are grounded, empowering, and built to support both your body and mind.
If you’ve never taken a prenatal yoga class before—or if you’re wondering how it differs from a traditional class—here is what you can expect when you step onto the mat with us.
1. A Warm, Judgment-Free Environment
First and foremost, our space is designed to be a safe haven. Traffic was terrible? Running late? Couldn't figure out if a pose looked "right"? You are always welcome here, exactly as you are. There is zero shame in arriving late or needing to take things at your own pace. Pregnancy is unpredictable, and our studio is a place to drop the pressure, not add to it.
2. Connection and Community (You Are Not Alone!)
We always begin class with an opening check-in. This isn't just to let the teacher know how you’re feeling—it’s about building real community.
As an expecting parent, there is so much to prepare for, and it can feel overwhelming. Opening up about how your body and mind are doing on any given day helps everyone in the room see that they aren't alone. Whether you’re feeling stressed, exhausted, or dealing with the unexpected realities of a changing body, you’re sharing that experience with people who truly get it. In fact, many of our students have bonded so deeply during these check-ins that they’ve started a weekly decaf coffee date together after class!
3. Adapting to Where You Are Today
Because you share how you're feeling at the start of class, your teacher can adapt the practice to fit where your mind and body are on that specific day. No two days of pregnancy feel identical, and your yoga practice shouldn't treat them like they are.
4. Preparing for Heavy-Lifting
While gentle, restorative movement is part of the experience, prenatal yoga is far more than just sitting and stretching. Just like any traditional Vinyasa class, there is a intentional flow of movement. We combine gentle motion with functional strengthening to help prepare your body for the physical demands of labor, as well as the pelvic floor strength and repetitive heavy lifting required once baby arrives.
5. Props, Modifications, and Comfort
Your prenatal yoga teacher is there to help make poses feel comfortable and supportive without exacerbating aches, pains, or tension.
The best part of prenatal yoga? Props are highly encouraged! We use blocks, blankets, and bolsters to support our changing bodies. A student favorite? Downward-Facing Dog—it offers incredible relief by taking the weight of the baby off your back and bladder!
The Ultimate Takeaway: Love and Accept Your Changing Body
Beyond the physical strength, the relief from pregnancy aches, and the beautiful community formed after class, prenatal yoga is ultimately a practice of acceptance.
It is a reminder to accept your changing body just as it is. There is nothing that needs to be fixed, cured, or changed. Your body is a beautiful, powerful creator of life, and it deserves to be loved, nourished, and cared for.
